BIOGRAPHY
Dan Waring is a London-based artist working primarily in oil paint. His practice explores the relationship between landscape, memory and sound, creating atmospheric paintings that exist somewhere between observation and imagination. By blending naturalistic forms with abstraction, he aims to evoke places that feel both familiar and elusive, inviting viewers to experience landscape through emotion rather than representation alone.
Colour, light and texture are central to his work. Inspired by the changing British landscape, music and everyday moments, his paintings are driven by a fascination with atmosphere and the way a place can be felt as much as seen. Layers of expressive brushwork and bold contrasts are used to build depth and movement, allowing each painting to develop organically.
Alongside his visual practice, Dan is also a composer for independent film. Music plays an integral role in his creative process, influencing the rhythm, mood and emotional language of his paintings. He sees painting and composition as complementary forms of storytelling, each informing the other.
Dan graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Kingston University and has exhibited across London, including at Kingston School of Art, Riverhouse KSA, the Handbag Factory, OSO Arts Centre and All Saints Church, Putney Common. His work has also been commissioned for private collections and community projects.
Through his work, Dan seeks to create spaces of stillness and contemplation—landscapes that encourage viewers to pause, reflect and find their own connection within the painted world.
